Plant Sale License Info & Application

What to expect

Chapters that have paid their annual dues are eligible for a free Plant Sale License (savings of $125.50 and member benefit).

Important reminders about the Plant Sale License and your Plant Sale:

  • Plant Sale License/Certificate is required to be posted in a conspicuous place in the area where you are selling your nursery stock so that it may be readily seen by the public.

  • Your premises and nursery stock on hand are subject to inspection at all times.

  • Infested or Infected Stock is Illegal.  If, at any inspection of your premises, you are found to possess nursery stock infested or infected with dangerous insect pests or plant diseases, such stock is subject to disposition as provided by law, and the certificate (license) may be revoked.

Purpose of the Inspection: The goal of the Department of Ag inspectors is to help us sell healthy plants.  They are looking for serious diseases such as a virus risk that might lead to a plant being quarantined.  Depending on the type of insect they find, they might set plants aside and recommend the proper treatment before they are sold.

Details about Inspections:

  • The contact person provided in your application will be contacted by the inspector to arrange the details of the inspection.

  • Inspections are informal and meant to help you.

  • Inspectors try to come before your sale begins.

  • Inspectors do not wear badges.

  • There are only eight inspectors in the state.

  • They will not come to your garden site if they find the plants you donated have a disease or insect—unless you ask them to.

  • Inspectors do not work on weekends.  If your sale is on a weekend, try to arrange to stage plants for inspection on a weekday (if at all possible).  Include the staging address in date box if different from the sale location.

If you have sales scheduled for more than one date, add details on the application form.

If you request a license before your dues have been received by the treasurer, your license will be held until your dues are received.

Licenses are sent to the Local Contact's email address as provided in the application.
