Meet Me in the Garden
The Christian County Master Gardeners, in collaboration with the Christian County Library, successfully carried out a series of educational presentations aimed at fostering gardening knowledge and practices. The bi-monthly presentations included a strong focus of hands-on learning and community engagement.
Master Gardeners volunteered to lead presentations, offering them twice a month over a six-month period. This consistent schedule allowed for sustained engagement and the progressive development of attendees’ gardening skills. To enrich the educational experience, physical examples and hands-on activities were integrated into the sessions. These practical elements ensured that participants could apply research-based techniques effectively in their own gardening practices.

Area Farmers' Market Little Sprouts
The Little Sprouts program aimed to foster an engaging and educational environment for children, focusing on horticultural and nutritional learning. The program was designed for children aged 4-12 and the activities were tailored to engage this young audience in hands-on learning experiences that combined fun and education.
Extension Master Gardeners led 18 hands-on sessions, with activities designed to stimulate young minds. They ranged from learning how to identify and label plant parts to exploring the fascinating world of pollination. Activities also included distinguishing between different types of produce – such as fruits and vegetables – and determining where they grow: below the ground, on the ground, or in trees. Scavenger hunts to identify fresh produce grown by vendors at the Sedalia Area Farmers’ Market added a hands-on approach.

Ste. Genevieve Master Gardeners
Cooperative Project with the City of Ste. Genevieve
The City of Ste. Genevieve is home to several “Pocket Gardens,” small but vibrant green spaces managed by local gardeners and organizations, with the mission of beautifying the downtown historic district. One particular pocket garden is cared for by the Ste. Genevieve Master Gardeners.
The Master Gardener’s pocket garden served as a Demonstration Garden. As an educational centerpiece, the garden provided learning opportunities for Master Gardeners and visitors. The garden contributed to the charm and appeal of Ste. Genevieve’s downtown area, attracting more visitors and fostering civic pride. It also served to build relationships, strengthening collaboration between the Master Gardeners and the city administration, ensuring long-term support for similar initiatives and reinforcing the shared responsibility for community spaces.
