Our Story & Mission

Missouri Master Gardener Association, Inc.

Founded in 2011, the Missouri Master Gardener Association, Inc., often referred to as MOMGA, is the statewide association of Master Gardeners for Master Gardeners. Comprised of representatives from each of our member chapters, our board meets quarterly throughout the state promoting local chapter projects and providing a forum for discussion and action on statewide program topics.  We provide curated Master Gardener educational content, resources and tools for our membership.

MOMGA's mission is to promote the interests of local Master Gardener chapters by advocating for quality and consistency in the Master Gardener experience; facilitating collaboration, education and resource sharing among members; and maintaining a strong relationship with the Missouri Extension Master Gardener Director, Coordinator, and the University of Missouri Extension.

Our Community Partnerships

Our work is grounded in partnership with the University of Missouri Extension Master Gardener Program, the foundation of Master Gardener training and chapter organization across Missouri.  Local chapters operate under Extension's guidance while also participating in MOMGA as their statewide association.  Together, we promote excellence through advance training opportunities, statewide collaboration, alternating conference leadership, and the Excellence Awards program, judged by Extension specialists.

MOMGA proudly sponsors the Largest Pumpkin Contest at the Missouri State Fair Horticulture Competition, showcasing exceptional gardening skill and agricultural achievement.  The contest brings together growers from across Missouri to compete, share expertise, and celebrate the state's rich agricultural traditions.

In addition, MOMGA collaborates with the St. Louis Aquarium’s Pirates & Pumpkins event, where the fair’s prize-winning pumpkins are displayed. During this event, Master Gardeners provide an opportunity for visitors to learn firsthand about growing pumpkins, offering free seeds and sharing tips on cultivation.

These outreach efforts celebrate Missouri’s rich agricultural heritage and foster community engagement by bringing together families, gardening enthusiasts, and visitors to enjoy fun, educational experiences. Whether you’re admiring record-breaking pumpkins or learning tips from local experts, MOMGA’s partnerships create lasting memories and inspire the next generation of gardeners.
